Steps in our Hiring Process
- Captain's Interview
An informal 15-20 minute interview with the Division Captain
- Oral Board Interview
Formal face-to-face interview for eligible and invited applicants
- Conditional Job Offer
Extended to top candidate(s) only.
- Statement of Personal History
Applicant completes the required paperwork for the background investigation.
- Pre-employment Background Investigation
Completion of a thorough background investigation as required by the Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) - this generally takes about three weeks
- Psychological Evaluation
Completed in two parts - the first is done on the computer and proctored at the Linn County Sheriff's Office; the second is a telemed appointment with the psychological doctor
- Medical Evaluation
Varies by position - certified positions (Deputy and Dispatchers) are evaluated on criteria set by the Department of Public Safety and Standards Training
- Sheriff's Interview
Formal face-to-face interview with the Sheriff and Division Captain - generally 30-40 minutes
